A Christmas Message
a Christmas message from your intendant General

Children’s Trust at Tadworth

Dear Worthy Knights,

The Sesquicentenary celebrations made 2015 a memorable year for the Order. The service at Lincoln Cathedral was a truly magnificent event. The Cathedral provided the perfect back drop and the weather behaved to make it a wonderful week end. Surrey Division occupied two tables at the luncheon after the service which was superbly presented by Lincoln Showground staff.

A planned visit to Rome earlier in the year with our Divisional Eusebius provided me with the opportunity to visit many of the references to our Royal founder such as the Arch of Constantine, The Vatican and the site of Milvian Bridge where history was made. A complete montage of photographs and video was provided by our travelling event recorder, Mrs Hancock!

At the June meeting of the Edward Smith Enthroned Sovereigns Conclave members and visitors were treated to a presentation by MP KT Dan Turner on the life and work of Robert Wentworth Little who established this masonic order plus a montage of photographs from our Rome visit. We were delighted to receive visits from the Intendants-General of Kent, Metropolitan and Middlesex Divisions together with, not only members from their Divisions, but also Hampshire, Sussex and Thames Division.

On 10th December I presented a cheque to the Children’s Trust at Tadworth on behalf of the Grand Sovereign’s Care for Children Fund. This fund continues to support Children’s charities within Surrey and I am expecting a further donation in the near future. As many of you will know I have determined that the Division support the Grand Sovereign’s Care for Children Charity and I am very grateful to those Conclaves that have already made donations to our relief chest. The Deputy Grand Sovereign will be in attendance at our Annual Meeting on 23rd April 2016 (St Georges Day) when he will receive a cheque from the Division on behalf of the charity. I hope as many as possible will be there at Surbiton Masonic Centre to welcome the Deputy Grand Sovereign to the Division.

No message from your Intendant General can be without a comment on recruitment. We have installed several very active Freemasons into the Order this year, most notably RW Bro Ian Clark PGM of the Mark Province of Surrey. There is a photo and report on this event here. Wt Kt Ian was installed by our Deputy Intendant General Ill Kt Frank Powell and I had the pleasure of receiving him into the Orders of the Holy Sepulchre and St John the Evangelist at the Empress Helena meeting in November.

The Division is hosting a Friendship evening at the Emperor Heraclius meeting at Croydon Masonic Centre on 7th March 2016. If you know of any Freemasons who are interested in this aspect of Freemasonry and are qualified please bring them along. Enquiries please to Mike Ellis, Assistant Divisional Recorder, email mikeellis11@btinternet.com. I ask you all to actively seek new members for this wonderful Christian Order.

Dates for you diary in 2016 are 24th March 2016 Croydon Masonic Centre, Edward Smith Conclave of Enthroned Sovereigns will be conferring Appendant Orders on new knights. Come along and witness this very moving ceremony. Divisional meeting is at the SURBITON masonic centre on 23rd April, St George’s day. The Annual General meeting of the Order will be held at Freemasons Hall on Wednesday 6th July. More detail will follow on these and other events.

Recent violent scenes on city streets throughout the world and in this country show we live in very troubled times. In praying for a more understanding and tolerant world I wish you and your families a safe, peaceful and happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

In Faith Unity and Zeal

Bob Hancock
